JETS 16U BOYS MAKE STRONG DEBUT IN NATIONAL LEAGUE
The Toronto Golden Jets' 16U boys team travelled to Ottawa and Montreal to open the 2015-16 NCL (national league) and came away with a strong 2-2 record.
The Jets got out of the cars in Ottawa, jumped in the pool and surprised the hosts winning 11-10.
The Jets led 3-1 after the first quarter and then ran the count to 8-2 in the 3rd quarter. Baptiste Pousset led the way with four goals, Luka Pejanovic notched a hat trick, Alex Morario scored twice while Petar Kovacevic and Stevan Djordjevic each tallied once.
The next day the Jets moved on to Montreal to face a very strong CAMO team. After falling behind 0-4 in the first quarter, the Jets clawed their way back to 7-9 in the 4th quarter but could get no closer, eventually losing 10-8. Pousset, Pejanovic and Morario each scored two goals with the remaining singles going to Kovacevic and Elijah MacMillan.
The Jets wound up the weekend with a doubleheader against the "A" and "B" teams from Dollard des Ormeaux (DDO). In the first game against DDO White ("B" team), the Jets quickly jumped in front 4-0 in the first quarter and stretched the lead to 8-1 during the second quarter. Coach Predrag Pejanovic used all players giving significant playing time to the substitutes. The Jets wound up winning 15-11 paced by a tremendous eight goal effort by Luka Pejanovic. Pousset added a hat trick and Metja Stefanovic, Martin Pelikka, Kovacevic and Morario all scored a goal.
In the final game, the travel and lack of a full line-up (Illan Rodriguez was unable to attend due to a serious family matter) caught up with Jets as they faced the top seed, DDO Black. The Jets hung in at 4-4 early in the second quarter but by the end of the third quarter trailed 12-5 before succumbing 19-7. Pousset and Morario each scored a hat trick with the other goal scored by Kovacevic.
