High Schoolers Travel to Pittsburgh
In May, the Golden Jets high school players traveled to Pittsburgh to play in a highly competitive high school tournament. The Jets team was comprised primarily of players in Grades 9 and 10
with a couple of Grade 11 players while the other teams were comprised primarily of players in Grades 11 and 12. Nevertheless, the Jets players did themselves and the club proud. In their first game, they easily defeated Skyline HS (Michigan) and then ran into a very strong Navy HS team that made the Jets pay for missed power play chances with numerous counter-attack goals.
On the second day of competition, the Jets lost a close game to Pittsburgh HS and followed that up with a narrow loss to the Pittsburgh Masters team (players over the age of 30). The tournament was a good learning lesson for the players who saw first hand what coach Zoran Petrovic had been trying to teach them about the game.
