Bantams Play at First Ever Provincials

The Golden Jets Bantams Team (U-14) played in its first ever Provincial Championships in Kitchener on the weekend of April 9-10. Coach Predrag Pejanovic took 13 players to the event primarily to gain experience for next year for his fledgling team of mostly first-year players.
Though the team didn't win any games, a couple of the contests were very close. The unexpected bright spot for the team was having one player (Nikola Visnjic, pictured above) named to the 1st All-Star Team and another player (Arthur Atangana) named to the 2nd All-Star team.

The Toronto Golden Jets Cadet Boys (U-16) won a BRONZE MEDAL at the very first Cadet Provincial Championships for the Golden Jets!!

Under the guidance of Coach Zoran Petrovic, the Jets went to London and finished with a record of 5-2 to grab third place.

The tournament opened poorly as the team was trounced in its first game by the eventual silver medallist team. The Achilles Heel for the Jets was the power play (man advantage) as the team went goalless in a dozen chances. Worse, the team gave up 10 counter-attack goals off missed power play opportunities. Certainly something that needs to be worked on for next year...

However, Petrovic got his charges back on track later that night with a comfortable 11-4 win over host K-W. In the game, Ognjen Radanovic was the first star and Pavle Kotarac was the third star. The next morning, the Jets cruised to a 11-0 shutout win over London with Boris Jovanovic getting first star honours and Alex Hadzi-Manov third star honours. Later that day, the Jets put together a total team effort and downed Hamilton 12-4. Jovanovic again was the game's first star and Cosmin Glasser was named third star. The third game of the day was against a "B" team and the Jets won 10-6 with Glasser the game's second star.

Then it was on to the last round robin match against heavily-favoured Ottawa. An improbable win and the Jets would play for gold, a loss and the team was still going to play for bronze. In a huge team effort led by Stephen Lissock, the game's second star, the Jets came close but eventually succumbed 4-2 to the Ottawa squad that later went on to the win the gold medal.

In the bronze medal game, the Jets again faced off against the host K-W team. Again Lissock led the Jets this time as the game's first star along with Alex Basic, the third star, as the Jets won a close one 8-6 to take the bronze medal in its first ever appearance at the Provincial Championships.

Finally, two Golden Jets players were named to the tournament's Second All-Star Team. Stephen Lissock with his strong Sunday games and Boris Jovanovic brought further awards to the Jets with their all-star nods.

Individual Men's MLWP Award Winners!

The Toronto Golden Jets silver medal-winning mens team also hit pay dirt with a couple of individual awards.

Trevor Robinson (pictured above) was voted the league's outstanding goalie by the teams' coaches. Robinson displayed a consistent performance throughout the season. His famous vertical jump (also shown above) allowed for numerous outstanding saves.

In another category, Mark Meli won the league's scoring trophy. Meli notched 55 goals in 18 games to lead all league scorers. The Jets' Jamie Earle finished 5th with 33 goals.

Congratulations to Trevor and Mark for having great seasons worthy of league-wide notice!
