JETS MEN LOSE MLWP CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

The Toronto Golden Jets senior men fell 6-7 to the Montreal Roadrunners in the MLWP championship game.  The Jets jumped into aquick 2-0 lead in the 1st quarter.  The game was tied 3-3 at the half and the Jets trailed 5-6 after three quarters.  The Jets tied it 6-6 with 2 minutes to go but surrendered the go-ahead goal with just 14 seconds left.  Tuna Tali tallied a hat trick, Vlad Andreyev scored twice and captain Jamie Earle got the other.  Several awards went to Jets players:  for the Regular Season, Trevor Robsinson was named Most Outstanding Goalie for the second time and Vlad Andreyev was named the Top Defensive Player and won the scoring title with 41 goals.  This is the 3rd year in a row that the team has won the silver medal.

JETS WOMEN 4th in MLWP

The Toronto Golden Jets senior women ended the MLWP season in 4th place after a 7-8 loss to Carleton.  The Jets led 2-1 after the 1st quarter, 3-2 after two and 6-4 after 3 before squandering the lead.  Olga Mayorova and Nicole Brown each scored twice with singles going to Rosalee Brown, Danielle Hirsh and Stephanie Watts.  The team bids a fond farewell and best wishes to captain Stephanie Lesaux-Farmer who is graduating from UofT and going abroad for grad school.  Thanks for all your contributions, Stephanie!

SEMI-FINAL OVERTIMES FOR JETS SENIORS

Both the senior men and senior women went to overtime in their MLWP league playoff semi-final matches today in Etobicoke.

The senior men trailed DDO 0-2 at the end of the 1st quarter but rebounded to tie by the half on two goals by Tuna Tali.  Tali notched the natural hat trick in the 3rd quarter but the Jets trailed 3-4 heading into the 4th.  Vlad Andreyev with 2 outside shots and Simon Chin Lee on the power play pulled the Jets into a 6-6 tie at the end of regulation. 

Captain Jamie Earle put the Jets in front 7-6 in the 1st overtime period and then the defence, backed by a stellar performance from goalie Andrew Chorniy, shut the door to send the Jets men into the gold medal game against CAMO (Montreal) on Sunday at 10:45am.

The senior women faced off against the Mavs and led 2-1 at the end of the 1st, 3-2 at the half, were tied 3-3 at the end of 3 and then 4-4 at the end of regulation time.  The teams did not score in the first overtime period but the Jets ran out of gas and fell 4-6.  Nicole Brown had three goals and Olga Mayorova one.  The Jets women will play for bronze at 12:15 tomorrow against Carleton.

JETS MEN & WOMEN INTO MLWP PLAYOFFS

The Golden Jets senior men and women will both be competing in the MLWP league playoffs this weekend in Toronto.  The men wrapped up the regular season with two more victories over the Mavericks and Hamilton to finish tied for 1st place in the standings with Montreal CAMO.  Both teams had 9-1 records but CAMO finished 1st due to beating the Jets in the first game of the season.  The 2nd place Jets will take on 3rd place DDO in the sudden death semi-final in a rematch of last year's MLWP championship game.

The Jets women ended the season in 3rd place and will face 2nd place Mavericks in the knockout semi-final.

U18 Boys Capture Bronze Medal at Provincials

The Toronto Golden Jets U18 Boys team took the bronze medal at the Provincial Championships  on the first weekend of March.  It was the second consecutive year the Jets have won the medal.  The Jets opened the tournament strongly with a convincing 15 goal win over London.  The win assured the team of a chance at a medal.  The team then fell three times in a row to Ottawa, Mavericks and the visiting Quebec team from Dollard-des-Ormeaux.  The final game was against Hamilton for the bronze medal.  It was an exciting see-saw game with several changes in momentum.  The Jets finally prevailed 10-8 to win the bronze medal.  All-Star accolades were bestowed upon the Jets' Vlad Kazansky (1st Team) and goalie Daniel Meci (2nd Team).  The team has high hopes for next year as
virtually the entire team will return.  Congratulations to coach Zoran Petrovic and his players!

JETS WOMEN SPLIT PAIR OF MLWP GAMES

On Saturday, March 2, the Golden Jets senior women hosted MLWP games at UofT and split its pair of games against Mavericks and Hamilton. In the first match, the Jets stumbled in a 13-3 defeat with Nicole Brown, Stephanie Lesaux-Farmer and Stephanie Watson scoring once each. The Jets then bounced back to score a rare water polo shutout victory over Hamilton, 8-0. Brown led the way with 4 goals while Watson, Maggie Burlington, Danielle Hirsh and Olga Mayorova added one each. Breanna Gadzosa split the goaltending duties with junior Alina Statsenko to record the shutout for the Jets. The Jets close out the MLWP regular season this coming Saturday at UofT playing the same two teams again.

JETS MEN SWEEP MLWP GAMES

On Saturday, March 2, the Golden Jets hosted MLWP games at UofT and swept its pair of games against Mavericks and Hamilton.  In the first match, the Jets cruised to a 16-3 win on the strength of
5 goals fromVlad Andreyev, 4 from Mike Chapman, 2 each from Alan Chung and Tuna Tali and singles from Brook Ruffo, Jamie Earle and Vlad Tasevski.  Later that evening, the Jets jumped out to an early 7-1 lead and finished with a 17-9 victory over Hamilton.  Andreyev led all scorers again with 7 goals, Tali, Earle and Chung each scored twice while Ruffo, Chapman, Bob Nichols and Sean McGhie had singles.  The Jets "B" team also played two games losing both.  Scorers for the "B" team on the day were Marcel Xaud and Tom Kasanda with 3 each, Corentin Auguin with 2 and singles from Mike Frankel, Marko Vukovic and Jamie Halla.  The Jets close out the MLWP regular season this coming Saturday at UofT playing the same two teams again.
