U16 BOYS HAVE GREAT FIRST NATIONALS

For the first time in the club's 33 year history, the Golden Jets entered a U16 Boys team at the Canadian National Championships.  The team performed admirably, winning 4 games and only losing 1.  Unfortunately, due to the seeding system and the fact that the Jets had not participated the year before, the team had to play the #1 seed (Calgary A) in the first round.

Calgary A went on to win the Championship.  The Jets lost 12-1 and thus lost 12 places in the standings.  The Jets margin of loss was much less than the next two teams Calgary played in the Top 12.  Seif Nile had the lone Jets goal and was named the game's 3rd star.

Next the Jets played Cote-Saint-Luc and easily triumphed 15-4 for the first ever win at nationals.  Marko Avdalovic led all scorers with 4 goals and was named the game's 1st star.  Nile had a hat trick for the Jets and was named 2nd star.  Stefan Mitic also had a hat trick while Matija Babic scored 2 goals and Stefan Vukovic, Stevan Brankovan and Luka Pejanovic each had one.

Following that win, the Jets took on Manitoba and came away 8-2 winners.  Babic had a hat trick and was named 1st star.  Avdalovic had 2 goals and was named 2nd star.  Nile also had 2 goals and Mitic had one.

The Jets were moving up the standings and now had to face Calgary B.  David Rappaport led the Jets with 4 goals and was named 1st star.  The 2nd star went to Mitic who scored twice as did Avdalovic.  Nile and Babic each had one goal to round out the scoring.

The final game for the Jets was against Edmonton for 13th place.  Again the Jets scored a convincing win - this time 11-5.  Rappaport was the game's 1st star as he scored 2 goals.  Goalie Daniel Meci was named the 2nd star.  Nile and Babic also had 2 goals with singles going to Kosta Grbic, Igor Jovanovic, "TD" Intas, Mitic and Avdalovic.

Coaches Zoran Petrovic and Predrag Pejanovic were understandably proud of the team and the way it conducted itself throughout the tournament, especially the 4 wins in a row to close it out.  The prognosis is also very good for the team as most of the players will be returning and have an excellent shot at moving much higher in t
he standings next year.
