JETS U19 BOYS OPEN STRONG IN MONTREAL

The Toronto Golden Jets U19 boys NCL team are in Montreal this weekend for the final league weekend tournament before playoffs.

After the drive, the Jets got in the pool on Friday and defeated DDO White 20-7.  Despite the expected slow start after the long trip, the Jets led 4-2 after the first quarter.  Then a pair of +4 quarters put the game out of reach.  David Rapoport and Blake Carnevale had monster games for the Jets each scoring 7 goals.  Stefan Mitic netted a hat trick, Marko Avdalovic scored twice and Alex Bozzo added the other.

After three hours rest, the Jets were back at it, this time against the Ottawa Titans.
The Jets led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.  Then the squad caught fire and ran off 6 straight goals to start the second quarter leading to an insurmountable 9-2 lead at the half.  Avdalovic led all scorers with five markers, Rapoport notched four, Carnevale had a hat trick, Stefan Vukovic chipped in with two goals and Kosta Grbic and Mitic added one apiece.

The two wins kept the Jets in second place in the Eastern Conference.

JETS SENIOR WOMEN IN TOUGH IN MONTREAL

The Golden Jets senior women's team went to Montreal undermanned but played gamely all weekend. The weekend got off to a rocky start with a 8 hour snow storm drive that made the team miss its Friday night match against DDO White.
The next day, the Jets defeated DDO Black 6-3 and then lost to CAMO White 18-9. On Sunday, CAMO Blue beat the Jets 15-6 and then the first place Capital Wave won out over the Jets 12-10.
Veterans Brittany Sinclair and Nicole Brown and second year player Ali Kraft led the Jets with 8 goals apiece over the weekend. Ana Miroslavic added 3 goals, Tanya Robinson 2 and Marianne Tout one.

JETS MEN LOSE FIRST GAME IN OVER TWO YEARS

It had to happen eventually.  After more than two years without losing a game, the Golden Jets senior men lost 13-10 to CAMO Roadrunners in Montreal.  The Jets never got their game going and trailed throughout the match getting close at 6-7 in the third quarter.  Alan Chung was a force offensively notching 5 goals.  Tuna Tali scored twice and Rudy Despaigne, Sukhmun Hare and Euan Scoffield added singles.
The next day, the Jets shook off the loss to defeat DDO 18-9.  The Jets were led by a pair of 4 goal performances from Hare and Scoffield.  Mike Chapman, Daniel Ugray and Chung each scored two goals while Sever Topan, Vlad Tasevski, Matt Hart and Tali chipped in singles.
The 3-1 weekend of play on Montreal left the Jets men in second place, a point behind the Roadrunners but with a game in hand.

JETS MEN CONTINUE TO LEAD LEAGUE

The Golden Jets senior men travelled to Montreal in a snow storm to play the second league crossover against the Quebec-based teams.  The drive on Friday night took 8 hours and the team literally had to run from the cars into the pool to play its first game.

The opposition was CAMO Masters and the drive took its toll as the Jets fell behind early but led 3-2 at the end of one quarter.  The Masters kept coming against the sluggish Jets players and went out in front 5-4 at the half.  The Jets recaptured the lead at 9-8 at the end of the third quarter but the Masters tied it up early in the final frame.  However, the Jets stormed back in the last five minutes to win 13-10.  Rudy Despaigne had a hat trick while Daniel Ugray and Euan Scoffield each scored twice.  Singles went to Mike Chapman, Paul Spooner, Matt Hart, Sever Topan and Sukhmun Hare.

On Saturday morning, the Jets again started slowly against Ottawa United and led by the same 3-2 end of first quarter margin as the night before.  The Jets defence then held strong conceding only once the rest of the way and the offence kicked into gear for a comfortable 15-3 victory.  Despaigne again led all scorers with 4 goals.  Alan Chung, Scoffield and Topan scored twice each and Tuna Tali, Vlad Tasevski, Hare, Hart and Ugray tallied singles.

JETS U19 BOYS END B.C. SWING WITH ANOTHER WIN

The fourth and final day of the B.C. national league crossover tournament saw the Golden Jets U19 boys topple the Calgary Wild 19-15 to finish 3-2 on the trip west.
After a tight 3-3 first quarter, the Jets moved ahead 11-8 and 14-10 at the ends of the next two quarters.
Rapoport had another monster game scoring 6 goals to lead the way.  Bozzo scored 5 goals, Mitic 3, Grbic and Carnevale 2 each and Avdalovic one.

JETS U19 BOYS SCORE PAIUR OF CONVINCING WINS IN B.C.

The Toronto Golden Jets U19 boys team scored a pair of convincing 16-8 wins on day 3 of the B.C. crossover tournament in Surrey.
In the opener, the Jets jumped out to a 6-3 first quarter lead over Team Saskatchewan.  They extended the lead to 10-4 at the half and 14-5 at the end of three quarters.
David Rapoport led all scorers with 6 goals, Blake Carnevale notched 4, Stefan Mitic and Alex Bozzo each scored twice while Kosta Grbic and Marko Avdalovic added singles.
Later in the day, the Jets took on the Edmonton Tsunami.  Again the Jets jumped out to a three goal first quarter lead.  However, the Tsunami narrowed it by one in the second.  The Jets then scored 4 unanswered goals in the third to go up 12-6.
Scoring was well spread out in this match but Rapoport led the way with another monster game of 7 goals.  Bozzo had a hat trick, Carnevale potted two while single tallies went to Mitic, Avdalovic, Grbic and Luka Pejanovic.

Jets U19 Boys Play Powerhouse B.C. Storm Tough

After a night's rest, the Jets U19 boys team had a doubleheader at the B.C. crossover tournament.
The day began with a tilt against last year's National Finals silver medallists, B.C. Storm.  The Jets hung tough for three quarters trailing only 13-10 entering the final period.  Blake Carnevale and Alex Bozzo each potted hat tricks, Marko Avdalovic and David Rapaport scored twice and Stefan Mitic the other marker before the team ultimately fell 17-11.
The team then turned around to face last year's bronze medallists, Calgary Torpedoes in what turned out to be a strange, if not controversial game.  The Jets led 6-4 after the opening quarter and still led 10-9 at the half.  The Torpedoes put on a spurt in the third quarter to lead 12-11.  In the final quarter, the Jets trailed by three goals with three minutes to play but stormed back to tie the game 16-16.
Calgary took the lead with 24 seconds left but it was found they were using an illegal player who had fouled out of the game with three minutes to go.
The Jets were correctly awarded a penalty shot due to Calgary's illegal player BUT the clock and game was re-set back to the point of the illegal player's game ejection.  This wiped out the Jets comeback.
Differences of opinion remain as to the correct procedure in such a case but the fact remains that the Jets were penalized (by losing the three goals they scored to tie the game) due to an infraction committed by Calgary.
The final score ended up 16-14 Calgary.  David Rapoport had a monster game scoring 8 goals.  Carnevale netted 5 and Bozzo 1 to round out the scoring.

Jets U19 Boys Open B.C. Trip With Win

The Toronto Golden Jets U19 boys NCL team flew to Vancouver, waited an hour and a half for the bus transport to the pool, hopped in the pool and built a 7-1 first quarter lead over the local Fraser Valley team en route to a solid 18-15 victory.
Stefan Mitic led the way for the Jets with 6 goals, Blake Carnevale and Alex Bozzo each netted 5 goals while Kosta Grbic and Matija Babic added one apiece.
