Jets Senior Women Defeat Hamilton

The Toronto Golden Jets senior women's team traveled to Hamilton on Saturday for a MLWP match.  Both teams were missing players due to the university break and a U18 tournament in Montreal.  The Jets started strong quickly going up 2-0 but lost the 2nd quarter to lead 4-3 at the half.  There was no scoring in the 3rd quarter and the game wasn't clinched until a minute to go on a backhand by Nicole Brown that made it 5-3 at the end.  Other goal scorers for the Jets were Danielle Hirsh and Stephanie Watson, each with two markers.  Junior Alina Statsenko played the second half of the game and held Hamilton goalless in her MLWP debut.  The Jets next play two games at home on March 2.

On the heels of the visit last weekend by the Brazilian national team, the Golden Jets senior men hosted Team Saskatchewan this past weekend for a couple of scrimmage practices.  Team Sask was stocked with a couple of ex-national team players and ex-junior national team players which made for excellent competition between the two teams.  Team Sask is preparing for the national championships which will take place in Saskatchewan in early April.

BRAZIL NATIONALMEN'S TEAM VISITS JETS

The Toronto Golden Jets got the chance of a lifetime when the Brazil National Men's Team decided to stop in Toronto for 5 days to train at the University of Toronto prior to the current World Championships Qualification Tournament in Calgary.  The Brazilian team scrimmaged with the Jets men 4 times during their stay and they also trained on their own on two other occasions.  The contact came about due to the connection between Brazilian Head Coach, Mirko Blazevic, and Jets age group Head Coach, Zoran Petrovic.  On the second night, the pool was not available, so Jets Head Coach, George Gross, Jr., arranged to take the Brazilians to a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game.  The Jets and Brazilians also had a social night together on the 4th night.  After the last scrimmage, both teams got together for a picture.  Coach Gross, Jr. then presented each player and member of the coaching staff with a Golden Jets T-shirt which the players, on their own, immediately donned in order to take a team picture.  The Golden Jets had hosted and played against some top European clubs in the past including Dozsa (Hungary), Ethnikos (Greece) and Pescara (Italy) but have never had the privilege to host a national team.
