JETS BANTAMS CLAIM 2nd at TITANS CUP

The Golden Jets U14 AA team traveled to Ottawa to play in the Titans Cup on the weekend of January 26-27.  It was a difficult start for the team which got stuck for several hours behind the major 60-car pile-up on the 401 and did not arrive until 4am Saturday morning.  After only a couple of hours of sleep, the Jets jumped into the pool and opened with a 9-6 win over the host Ottawa Titans.  Illan Rodriguez-Martin had 5 goals for the Jets, Kosta Grbic had a hat trick and Viktor Brancus notched the other goal.  A couple of hours later, the Jets were back at it against the K-W II team and came away with a 7-3 win courtesy of 2 goals each from Brancus and Denis Lipman, and singles by Grbic, Luka Pejanovic and Bojan Popovic.    Then, after a meal break, the Jets had to play their 3rd game of the day on a couple of hours sleep against Gatineau.  The Jets slept through the first half but only trailed 0-2.  Then, the team woke up with 2 goals from Rodriguez-Martin to tie the game heading into the 4th quarter.  Gatineau scored once early in the 4th and that was it as the exhausted Jets fell 2-3.  The next morning, refreshed after a good night's sleep, the Jets roared back to trounce Hamilton 14-1 with scoring from Grbic (5), Pejanovic (3), Igor Jovanovic (3), Brancus (2) and Lipman (1).  The final game was against K-W 1 and hat tricks from Grbic, Pejanovic and Lipman plus singles from Brancus and Rodriguez-Martin propelled the Jets to a 11-3 victory and a 2nd place finish.

JETS Host Clarington Start-up Program

On Sunday, the Jets age group program hosted the CLARINGTON Polo Bears water polo group for an afternoon of introductory scrimmage.  The Polo Bears are led by ex-Jets women Linda St. Germain and Rika Hayakawa.  Clarington is about an hour east from the UofT pool past Oshawa.
The Polo Bears brought 16 players aged 12-17 including two girls.  The two groups rotated units of players to get similar level players playing against each other.  The coaches of the two teams are hopeful that some of the Polo Bear players will use this event as a springboard to pursuing competitive water polo as an independent group or as members of the Golden Jets.

Jets Men Go 3-1 in MLWP Crossover Weekend

Last weekend, the Golden Jets senior men traveled to Montreal to play the crossover games against the Quebec teams in MLWP action.  On Friday, after driving 6 hours, the team got out of their cars and jumped in the pool against host CAMO.  It was the first game of the season for the Jets and the third for CAMO.  The rust showed and the Jets fell behind by 3 goals throughout the first 3 quarters.  Then, the Jets closed to within a goal but couldn't tie eventually falling 7-9.  Alan Chung (3), Tuna Tali (2), Julian Filice and Vlad Andreyev tallied for the Jets.  The next morning, the Jets faced off against perennial nemesis DDO.  The Jets took advantage of the fact DDO was missing some key players and won going away by 13-4.  Andreyev (5), Tali (3), Chung, Filice, Mike Chapman, Simon Lee and Brook Ruffo scored for Toronto.  Saturday night the Jets tied the first quarter 4-4 but went on to defeat Laval by 13-6.  Andreyev and Tali had 3 each, Chung, Lee and Bob Nichols had 2 each and Som Seif added a single for the Jets.  The final game was Sunday morning against Ste. Foy and the Jets won handily, 18-7.  Andreyev led all scorers with 7 goals, Tali had another hat trick, Chung, Ruffo and Seif had 2 each as did Sean McGhie which meant every Jets player but one scored on the weekend.
