The Golden Jets 16U boys team concluded a great run at the 2014 National Championships finishing 5th overall. Two years ago, the Jets didn't even enter the nationals. Last year, the team came a
respectable 13th out of 24 teams losing only its first game to the eventual winners, Calgary. This year, the Jets final game turned out to be against the same Calgary club and the Jets almost pulled off a great upset, losing 6-7 in a hard-fought contest. Last year, the final score between the teams was 12-1 in Calgary's favour. The turnaround is nothing short of spectacular! In the game, the Jets jumped out to a 2-0 first quarter lead and extended it to 3-0 at the half. Early in the 3rd quarter, the Jets extended the lead to 4-0. But Calgary began to come back, closing to 2-4, 4-5 and eventually 5-6 heading into the final quarter. Then, the Jets offence went dry, failed to score a goal and Calgary eked out the win. David Rapoport led the Jets with a hat trick and was named the game's second star. Blake Carnevale netted two goals and Stefan Mitic had the other.
