JETS U10 BOYS SCORE BIG WINS IN NCL

The Golden Jets U19 boys travelled to Montreal on the weekend to play
5 games in NCL league action.

First up, on Friday night, was the Capital Wave (Ottawa).  The Jets jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back winning 20-4.  David Rapoport and Stefan Mitic each scored a whopping 7 goals to pace the Jets.  Luke Pejanovic and Victor Brancus each added a pair while Maksim Cuturillo and Phillip Iannou scored once.  Goalies Andrei Velasevic and Igor Jovanovic combined to only allow an impressive four goals.

Saturday morning, the Jets faced off against division-leading Ottawa Titans.  The Jets fell behind 2-1 at the end of the first quarter and still trailed by one, 5-4, at the half.  The team found itself down 8-5 with only three minutes to go but roared back in the final two and a half minutes to score four unanswered goals and pull out a thrilling 9-8 victory.  Rapoport and Cuturillo led the way with hat tricks, Iannou notched a pair and Pejanovic tallied the other goal.

Later that day, the Jets went up against Quebec division leading CAMO (Montreal).  The Jets trailed 5-2 after one quarter of play and closed the deficit by one to lag behind by two at the half.  Perhaps tired from the strenuous morning game, the Jets rallied time and again to keep the two goal deficit but couldn't get over the hump losing 13-10.  Rapoport drummed home 5 goals, Marko Avdalovic posted a hat trick, Mitic notched a pair and Pejanovic and Iannou each scored once.

Sunday morning found the Jets up against Friday night's opponent, Capital Wave.  The Jets again jumped ahead early leading 4-1 at the end of the first quarter.  They extended the lead to 7-2 at the half and again to 10-4 after three quarters before coasting home to a 13-7 win.  Raporport, Cuturillo and Mitic all scored hat tricks to pace the Jets attack.  Iannou potted a pair while Pejanovic and William Qiu tallied once.

The final game was against Montreal's DDO.  DDO had thumped the Jets in their first meeting in November but found themselves down 3-2 to the Jets at the end of the initial quarter of play.  The Jets then extended the lead to 6-4 at the half.  The teams battled even in the third quarter and the Jets led 10-8.  Then, in the final three minutes, the Jets scored three unanswered goals to ice the game, winning 14-9 in a huge upset.  Rapoport scored an incredible 9 goals in the game.  Mitic added a pair while Cuturillo, Iannou and Brancus netted one apiece.

The four wins moved the Jets into second place in the Ontario Division behind the Titans.Great job

JETS MEN'S GOLD TEAM 2-1

The Toronto Golden Jets gold team went 2-1 to start the 2017 MLWP season.
Driving six hours to Montreal, the team arrived on deck just in time to play its game against the defending MLWP champion Montreal CAMO.

No one expected what then happened. The Jets jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter lead and never looked winning 14-5.

Daniel Ugray led the way with 4 goals. Rudy Despaigne, Euan Scoffield and Mike Chapman each scored a pair with singles going to Milos Radojcic, Matt Hart, Sever Topan and Sukhmun Hare.
The next day it was a tilt against the Mavs, a team sporting three National Team members. The first quarter was a tight affair with the Jets edgin out inf ront 3-2. The Jets widened the gap to 6-3 at the half. Then, thanks to some stifling defence which held their opponents goalless, the Jets went into the 4th quarter leading 9-3 before settling for a 12-8 victory.

Despaigne and Ugray each notched 4 goals while Tuna Tali, Paul Spooner, Hart and Topan scored once.
A few hours later it was back in the pool against the Ottawa Titans, also reinforced by National Team players in from Calgary where the team is centralized. The Jets were never in the game at the start falling behind 6-1 into the second quarter. However, the team pulled itself together to close the gap to 9-7 half way through the 4th quarter before a phantom game exclusion call on Ugray put the team down for 4 minutes ultimatelyending with a 11-7 loss.

Ugray had two goals and Despaigne, Chapman, Hart, Hare and Tali each added one.

JETS WOMEN OPEN MLWP IN MONTREAL

The Golden Jets women opened the 2017 MLWP season in Montreal with a win and three losses.

After driving for 6 hours, the women got in to play the host CAMO club, the defending champions with virtually all of their players training at the National Team Center.  After a decent first quarter where the Jets trailed 4-2, CAMO swam away with the game winning 17-5.  Ana Miroslavic scored twice with singles going to Marianne Tout, Tanya Robinson and Shae Fournier.

The next day, the team faced off in a game that would count in the standings but against a team, New York AC, that would not be playing in the playoffs.  The team held strong, trailing only 4-6 in the third quarter but ran out of gas before succumbing 13-7.  Fournier showed her prowess as a national team player scoring 5 of the goals while Emily Kelvin-Davies and Miroslavic added the others.

Later in the day, the tired squad went up against Capital Wave (Ottawa) and never recovered from a poor 0-4 first quarter start.  Though the rest of the game went even up, the Jets lost 10-6.  Fournier and Miroslavic each tallied twice with Megan MacCormac and Tout scoring once each.

On Sunday, the Jets' final game of the weekend was against the Ottawa Titans.  The teams fought hard with the Jets leading 4-3 after one quarter, 6-5 after two and the teams being tied 7-7 midway through the third quarter.  Then the Jets pulled away to win 16-9.  Fournier again had a big game with 6 goals, Kassie Fraser, Miroslavic and MacCormac each notched a pair and Aoife Miller, Rhianne Wood, Kelvin-Davies and Tout scored once.

Next up for the Jets is a game at home against Hammer WPC (Hamilton).

GOLDEN JETS WOMEN WELCOME SHAE FOURNIER

As part of a National Team directive, each club in the women's MLWP was assigned a senior national team player centralized in Montreal. The Golden Jets are extremely fortunate to have been assigned Shae Fournier and wish to welcome Shae to the club and the senior women's team. Shae's international experience both at the collegiate level and as part of Canada's National Team will be a valuable asset for the Jets women to learn from. Shae will be available for the three main weekends of play including the National Championship Finals (April 1-2) and the MLWP tournament at UofT February 18-19. All Jets age group girls should make a special effort to get out and see Shae as many times as possible.

SILVER JETS MEN FIGHT BRAVELY IN MLWP DEBUT

With high school exams, injuries and work commitments, the Silver Jets team (one of two teams entered by the club in the senior men's national league) was forced to travel to Montreal for three games with no substitutes. Eytan Cerasi, Stefan Mitic, Gorast Tasevski, Evan Price, Filip Ioannou, Zach Ginsberg and Zach Graper were forced to play 12 quarters in less than 24 hours. The septet hung in the games as long as they could and did get great conditioning out of the tests. Graper was the goal scoring force with seven goals on the weekend. Mitic totaled three goals, Ginsberg notched a pair and Tasevski added the other. For their effort, we can truly call them the Magnificent Seven!
