JETS U14 SECOND TEAM PERFORMS WELL

The Toronto Golden Jets entered a second team in the U14 March Madness tournament in Etobicoke. The team was composed entirely of 11 and 12 year olds, the players that next year will form the core of the Jets U14 league team.

The youngest and smallest team at the tournament performed better and better with every game. The team only managed two goals in each of its first two games. Then, the team made a significant leap forward and scored 8 goals in each of its last three games.

The experience that the players gained from these games will be invaluable to their development and to their performance in U14 league play next year.

Great work boys!!!

JETS U14 BOYS TAKE BRONZE

The Toronto Golden Jets boys U14 team comprised of 13 year olds had a tremendous weekend at the March Madness tournament in Etobicoke. The team won the bronze medal out of the 16 teams.

The Jets won both of their round robin games to start the tournament defeating Ottawa 15-5 and Mavs Red 9-5. This was followed by two losses to the eventual gold and silver medal winning teams which set the stage for the bronze medal game against Montreal Machine.

The Jets trailed 4-1 entering the final quarter of play but roared back to tie the game 5-5 and win the bronze medal on goal differential.

Congratulations!!!

JETS MEN, WOMEN TAKE DOUBLEHEADER

The Toronto Golden Jets senior men and women traveled to Etobicoke and swept a doubleheader from the Mavs to wrap up their respective regular seasons in MLWP play.

The men began the evening getting out to a 4-3 first quarter lead.  Then the team scored 5 unanswered goals to lead 7-3 at the half and then 9-3 into the third quarter.  In the end, the Jets men prevailed 11-6.

Tuna Tali led all scorers with 4 goals, Euan Scoffield added a hat trick, Rudy Despaigne scored twice and Mike Chapman and Sukhmun Hare chipped in with singles.

Then it was the women's turn and the Jets went out in front 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.  The team extended its lead to 4-2 at the half.  Then a two minute lapse in concentration at the start of the third quarter by the entire team saw the lead evaporate and the team trailing by one.  However, the Jets women picked up their game and regained the lead 6-5 by the end of the quarter.  That score stood up as the teams failed to score in the final frame.

Ana Miroslavic and Danielle Zanardo each netted a pair of goals while Tanya Robinson and Julie Szpara added singles.

Both teams now move on to the Championship Finals this weekend in Markham.

UofT Women Hoist Banner

The UofT women had our banner raising ceremony a couple of days ago along with other of our school’s champion teams and I thought you might like to see the banner.
It is the first ever National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) banner presented as the university programming in Canada is now moving from a regional to a national format. It also represents our 4th consecutive perfect season.
All of the UofT women that earned this historic banner are members of the current Golden Jets senior women's team.

JETS MEN GAIN #1 SEED FOR NATIONAL FINALS

The Golden Jets men clinched the Eastern Conference regular season title and the #1 seed at the National Finals with a 15-5 win at home versus Hammer WPC (Hamilton).

The Jets jumped out to a quick 4-1 first quarter lead and extended the lead to 7-2 by the half. The teams traded goals in the third before the Jets pumped in 5 unanswered 4th quarter goals.

Milos Radojcic led the Jets with 4 goals. Rudy Despaigne, Sukhmun Hare and Euan Scoffield each scored a hat trick while Mike Chapman and Tuna Tali added singles.

JETS WOMEN CLINCH SOUTHERN DIVISION TITLE

The Golden Jets women's team went to Hamilton and came away with a 9-4 win over Hammer WPC to clinch first place in the Eastern Conference South Division and get the #2 seed at the National Finals.

The first quarter was a tight, low scoring affair that left the Jets ahead 2-1. The Jets then extended the lead to 6-2 in the second quarter.

Nicole Brown led the way with a hat trick while Katrina Jensen popped in a pair. Single tallies were scored by Ana Miroslavic, Brittany Sinclair, Kassie Fraser and Rhianna Wood.

Rachael Jaffe and Daniela Freeman were solid in the cage giving up only one goal per quarter in their respective halves.

SILVER JETS FINISH REGULAR SEASON WITH TIE

The second Golden Jets team in the men's national league (Toronto Silver Jets) escaped the East Conference cellar of the MLWP with a 12-12 in Hamilton against Hammer WPC.

The teams were deadlocked 3-3 after the opening quarter.  Hammer then ran off three unanswered goals before the Silver Jets could respond leaving Hammer up 6-4 at the half.  The Silver Jets roared back in the third to take a 8-7 lead only to see it slip away in the last minute as Hammer scored twice to lead 9-8 entering the final frame.  It appeared bleak when Hammer scored to go up 12-10 with two minutes remaining but the Silver Jets were relentless and scored twice to produce the 12-12 result.

Stevo Djordjevic led the way with 5 goals while David Rapoport notched 4.  Alex Ioannou scored twice and Victor Brancus added a single.

The Silver Jets will enter the National Finals as the 7th seed and will play a quarter-final match against #2 seed CAMO (Montreal).
